Anna doesn't know what she is in for. She has remained a loyal friend to troubled Lucie, with whom she was thrown together as a child at their orphange. Lucie's traumatic, mysterious captivity left her with a lifelong haunting and now an adult, she is determined to make a sacrifice to the entity stalking her and bring an end to her torment.

Anna journeys to the house Lucie was previously held captive in, to find an entire, seemingly normal family of 4 having been slaughtered by Lucie, who insists they were not all they seemed, that they were responsible for her abuse and it was a necessary killing. Anna is torn between supporting her longtime friend and uncertainty over whether it was justified, or simply all in Lucie's mind. It seems Lucie may never escape her past though and takes her own life. Anna, now alone, discovers the house lies atop a torture chamber and the events that have occurred in the house have been surveiled by an organisation whose purpose is to seek what lies beyond death. Lucie, afterall, was telling the truth. However, Anna is now alone and privy to the secrets of the organisation, meaning she cannot be set free. Instead, she is held within one of the vacant underground cells that many before her have been left to rot in, chained to a chair, fed gruel and beaten mercilessly, her days repeating until she has reached the point of transcendance and is ready for the next phase: flaying.

Martyrs explores the idea of what awaits us at the point of death and the extremes a human can endure in order to reach that higher level at a very gruesome cost.
