"I'm good. This is fine. This is nothing at all."

Out of the office, we see corporate lawyer Gerri in a social setting, although shop talk still abounds. From business attire to formal dress up, we see a character from the show 'Succession' who seems to have it all, which is no less evident in her costuming.

With a high powered, intelligent, ballsy persona, there is still a warm, maternal element to Gerri, given that we are aware she is a widowed mother, but also has to play the part of mother with her many male counterparts, most of whom don’t appear to have yet reached emotional maturity.

In this particular scene, her mentoring journey of brat Roman appears to be in vain, as it fully unravels.

Though no stranger to a good hat (be it on a boat, or an Italian garden party), here it provides that softening of Gerri. She’s about to be let down and disappointed, not just from being discarded as a loyal employee, but also as a teacher and a friend, seeing the monster emerge in a man she hoped to guide in a different direction.

The Hat:

Her choice of headwear somewhat acts to hide her face, symbolising a shielding of that vulnerability she dare not display in front of people she has established herself around, as the supposed ‘stone cold killer bitch’. In a sense she’s not at a wedding, but is instead at a funeral.
